About Us

About the Coptic Church

When St. Mark came to Egypt, he brought with him the treasured faith of our Lord Jesus Christ and the glorious news of His Resurrection. He was eventually martyred, but not before ordaining bishops and deacons, and converting huge swathes of the population. Jumping forward in time, we are still practicing those same traditions and believing in those same words that He gave to St. Mark, who gave it to us. That's not to say that only Egyptians are part of the Church. Following St. Mark's example and the Lord's words (Matthew 28:16-20), we learned the importance of evangelism. No matter your country of birth, you are welcome at St. Mary's. To say that we're Orthodox does not mean that we are Jewish. Instead, "Orthodox" is originally a Greek word meaning "straight knowledge" or "true belief." It is this that we hold onto, a confidence confirmed by two thousand years of history and bloodshed of martyrs.

About This Church

We are a Coptic Orthodox community spread out over southwestern Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, meeting every Saturday for Vespers and Sunday for the Divine Liturgy. We began our journey in 1985, yet we still hope to grow in love and fellowship, and continually seek after the Kingdom of Heaven. We'd love to get to know you.
